10-Day Discounted Rwanda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trek Safari
This 10-day Rwanda safari brings together the country’s main highlights in one complete journey: Akagera National Park, Kigali, Nyungwe Forest, Lake Kivu, Volcanoes National Park, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, golden monkeys, Bisoke hike, culture, coffee, tea, and boat experiences.
It is a strong itinerary for travellers who want to see Rwanda properly, with private transport, organised logistics, and a clear route from east to south, west, and north.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your Izuba Tours representative welcomes you and assists with your transfer to the hotel.
After check-in, you can relax, exchange money if needed, and prepare for the safari programme ahead.

Day 2: Kigali to Akagera National Park — Sunset Boat Cruise
After breakfast, your driver-guide transfers you to Akagera National Park in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. The drive takes around 2.5 hours, with possible photo stops along the way.
On arrival, you check in at the lodge and have time for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon, you enjoy a sunset boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you may see hippos, crocodiles, and many water birds.

Day 3: Full Game Drive in Akagera — Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you start a full-day game drive through Akagera National Park.
Akagera is Rwanda’s only savannah park and offers chances to see elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, baboons, and many bird species. With luck, you may also see lions, rhinos, or leopards.
Later in the afternoon, you drive back to Kigali for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Kigali City Tour — Transfer to Nyungwe via Nyanza
After breakfast, you begin with a short Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
You then drive south-west towards Nyungwe National Park. Along the way, you stop at the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, an important site for learning about Rwanda’s royal history.
Afterwards, continue to Nyungwe, check in at the hotel, and relax for the evening.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking — Canopy Walk
After an early breakfast, you enter Nyungwe Forest for chimpanzee trekking. The forest is one of Rwanda’s most important natural areas and is home to chimpanzees, monkeys, birds, and rich mountain rainforest.
After the trek, return to the hotel for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, continue with the canopy walk, a suspended walkway offering views over the forest.

Day 6: Tea Plantation Experience — Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, you visit a tea plantation near Nyungwe. This is a relaxed local experience where you learn about tea growing, picking, and the plantation landscape.
After the visit, you continue to Lake Kivu on the Kibuye side. The evening is free to enjoy the lake views and hotel surroundings.

Day 7: Lake Kivu Boat Cruise — Coffee Experience — Transfer to Volcanoes
After breakfast, you enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, visiting nearby islands and taking in the scenery of one of Africa’s Great Lakes.
You then continue towards Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, you stop for a coffee experience, learning about Rwanda’s coffee journey from crop to cup.
On arrival in Musanze, check in and rest before the next day’s gorilla trekking.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking — Cultural Experience
After an early breakfast, you transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for registration and briefing.
You then begin the gorilla trekking experience with park guides. Once the gorilla family is found, you spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and rest. In the afternoon, visit Gorilla Guardians Village for a cultural experience with traditional stories, music, dance, and Rwandan heritage.

Day 9: Bisoke Hike
After breakfast, you return to the park headquarters for briefing before starting the Mount Bisoke hike.
The hike leads through volcanic landscapes towards the crater lake at the summit. The walk can be demanding, but the views make it a memorable experience for active travellers.
After the hike, return to the lodge and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 10: Golden Monkey Trekking — Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you return to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking.
The trek takes you through bamboo forest in search of these active and colourful primates. After spending time with the golden monkeys, you return to the lodge, check out, and drive back to Kigali.
Drop-off will be at your hotel, residence, or Kigali International Airport.

INCLUSIONS
Gorilla trekking permits are issued by the Rwanda Development Board and must be booked in advance. Availability is limited. Izuba handles all permit arrangements on your behalf.
Trekking with gorillas requires a minimum age of 15. Visitors showing signs of illness on the day of the trek may be declined access to protect the gorillas’ health.
