2 Days Akagera National Park Safari & Lake Ihema Boat Cruise

This short Rwanda safari is ideal for travellers who want to experience Akagera National Park without needing many days. The tour combines a scenic drive from Kigali, a peaceful boat cruise on Lake Ihema, and a classic game drive through Rwanda’s only savannah park.

Akagera offers a completely different side of Rwanda: open plains, lakes, wetlands, and wildlife including elephants, buffalo, antelope, hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species. This is a private tour with transport in a 4×4 safari vehicle and the support of an experienced driver-guide.

Itinerary

Your Izuba Tours driver-guide will pick you up in Kigali, either from the airport, hotel, or residence. After a short briefing, you drive east towards Akagera National Park. The journey takes around 2.5 hours and passes through the rolling landscapes of Rwanda’s Eastern Province.

On arrival, you check in at your lodge and have time for lunch and a short rest. Later in the afternoon, you continue to Lake Ihema for a sunset boat cruise. This is one of the best ways to see hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and the calm beauty of Akagera from the water.

After the boat cruise, you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Akagera Game Lodge
Meal plan: Bed & Breakfast

After an early breakfast, you start your game drive through Akagera National Park. The park is home to a wide range of wildlife including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, baboons, and many bird species. With some luck, you may also see lions, rhinos, or leopards.

You will enjoy the changing scenery of the park, from savannah plains to lakes, woodland, and wetland areas. A packed lunch can be arranged for the day, depending on the schedule.

Later in the afternoon, your driver-guide transfers you back to Kigali and drops you at your hotel, residence, or the airport.
