3 Days Golden Monkey Trekking and Bisoke Hike
This 3-day Rwanda itinerary is designed for active travellers who want to experience Volcanoes National Park without doing gorilla trekking. It combines a Kigali city visit, Mount Bisoke hike, and golden monkey trekking in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park.
The tour is private and includes transport in a 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced driver-guide.
Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali City Tour — Transfer to Musanze
Your Izuba Tours driver-guide picks you up from your hotel or residence in Kigali after breakfast.
You begin with a short Kigali city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Afterwards, you drive north to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park.
The journey offers beautiful views of Rwanda’s hills, farms, villages, and countryside. On arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 2: Mount Bisoke Hike
After an early breakfast, you transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and briefing.
You then begin the Mount Bisoke hike with park guides. The hike passes through forest and volcanic landscapes before reaching the crater lake at the summit. The walk can be demanding, but it is one of the most rewarding hiking experiences in Rwanda.
After the descent, your driver-guide transfers you back to the hotel for rest and overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking — Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you return to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey trekking.
The trek takes you into the bamboo forest, where golden monkeys are often seen feeding, jumping between branches, and moving in groups. You spend time observing them in their natural habitat before returning to the lodge.
After check-out, your driver-guide transfers you back to Kigali for hotel or airport drop-off.
End of tour.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking — Return to Kigali
After breakfast, you return to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking.
This is usually a lighter trek than gorilla trekking, but still a special wildlife experience. You will spend time watching the golden monkeys move, feed, and play in the bamboo forest.
After the activity, you return to the lodge, check out, and drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, there may be time for souvenir shopping before airport drop-off.

INCLUSIONS
Gorilla trekking permits are issued by the Rwanda Development Board and must be booked in advance. Availability is limited. Izuba handles all permit arrangements on your behalf.
Trekking with gorillas requires a minimum age of 15. Visitors showing signs of illness on the day of the trek may be declined access to protect the gorillas’ health.
