Rwanda’s ancient rainforest
Nyungwe National Park is one of Rwanda’s most important natural treasures. Located in the southwest of the country, it is a large mountain rainforest known for its rich biodiversity, cool climate, and deep green scenery.
The park is famous for chimpanzee tracking, but it also offers forest walks, birdwatching, waterfalls, tea plantation views, and the popular canopy walkway. It feels very different from Akagera and Volcanoes — quieter, greener, and more mysterious.
Nyungwe is ideal for travellers who enjoy nature, walking, photography, and forest landscapes. The journey from Kigali is long, but the route is beautiful, passing through hills, towns, tea fields, and countryside.

You leave Kigali early and travel south towards Nyungwe National Park. Along the way, you see Rwanda’s changing landscapes, from city roads to rolling hills, tea plantations, and mountain forest.

Practical Information
Kigali is easy to move around with a private driver-guide. Roads are good, the city is safe by regional standards, and most hotels, restaurants and main attractions are within comfortable driving distance.

Yellow fever

In Kigali

Currency
