Akagera Safari Day Trip
A full day in Rwanda’s wild side — lions, lakes, savannah plains, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Just a few hours from Kigali, the landscape changes completely.
The city hills slowly disappear behind you, replaced by open savannah, shimmering lakes, and acacia woodlands. Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s only savannah national park and home to the Big Five — lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo — along with giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, and hundreds of bird species.
This is not a zoo experience.
There are no barriers, no feeding shows, and no guaranteed sightings. The animals move freely through their natural habitat, and every game drive feels different.
Your day begins early with hotel pick-up in Kigali before heading east toward the park. Along the way, you’ll stop to pick up a packed lunch for the safari. Once inside the park, the entire experience becomes pure sightseeing — slow drives through breathtaking landscapes while searching for wildlife in the wild.
Some moments are loud and exciting: elephants crossing the road, baboons running past the vehicle, or giraffes appearing unexpectedly between the trees.
Others are quiet: watching a lake full of hippos in complete silence while the wind moves through the grass.
That contrast is what makes Akagera unforgettable.
